Marble and Onyx Touch Night Light

The Viego Co. Marble and Onyx Touch Night Light is a small block of natural stone, 8.5 by 6.3 cm, carved and hand polished so the light comes through the stone itself rather than out of a shade. Because the veining is quarried rather than printed, the pattern the light picks out is particular to the piece you receive.

A tap on the top cycles it through seven light settings, from a soft warm white for last thing at night to a run of colours for when you want the stone doing something more. It is deliberately low output and free of glare, which makes it a bedside and mood light rather than anything you would read by. There is no cord in use: a rechargeable battery sits inside and it charges over USB-C, so it can move to a coffee table, a windowsill, a shelf or a bathroom without a socket anywhere near it.

Two stones are offered. Cream onyx is pale and even, and glows almost uniformly when lit. Veined marble is white with burgundy and grey running through it, so lighting it from within throws the seams into relief. Both work as an object in daylight and as a light after dark. Wipe with a dry soft cloth; natural stone is porous, so clear spills rather than leaving them.
