Bauhaus Glass Mushroom Lamp

The Viego Co. Bauhaus Glass Mushroom Lamp is a coloured glass dome on an iron base, drawn in the Bauhaus spirit where the shape is the whole design and nothing is added to it. The glass is coloured rather than painted, so the tint is in the light it throws as well as in the object.

It dims steplessly rather than in fixed steps, and switches between 3000 K, 4000 K and 6000 K, which covers a warm bedside setting and a cool working one from the same lamp. Power comes over USB at 12 V DC, drawing 6 to 10 W, with a one metre cord and a push button switch. The LED is integrated, so there is no bulb to fit or replace. Three colours are offered: beige, orange and pink.

Because it runs from USB it works anywhere there is a charger or a laptop port, which suits a desk, a sideboard, a bedside table or a shelf. It is small enough not to crowd a nightstand and solid enough at the base not to be knocked over by the cord. Running at 12 V rather than mains voltage also means there is no transformer block sitting on the floor. Wipe the glass with a dry soft cloth.
