USB Mushroom Table Lamp

The Viego Co. USB Mushroom Table Lamp is a stacked mushroom shape on a chrome stem, made to sit on a bedside table, a kitchen table or a desk. The stepped shade breaks the light up as it comes down rather than dropping it in one hard ring.

Brightness runs through nine levels from a single button, which is finer control than the three or four steps most lamps of this size offer, and the light switches between white, warm and neutral. The body is plastic and metal on a chrome stem and measures 18 by 30 cm. The LED is integrated, so no bulb is ever fitted. It runs from any USB port at 5 V, which means a laptop, a wall charger or a power bank all drive it. Three colours are offered: white, pink and orange.

Running from USB rather than the mains makes it easy to move between a desk by day and a bedside by night, and easy to take away for a weekend. There is no transformer block on the cable to get in the way, and because the LED is sealed behind the shade there is nothing to unscrew or replace over its life. Wipe it with a dry soft cloth.
